The Cool Spot

What if there were a place, outside the chaos of ordinary life—where light and sound combine in a vibration, where the music is always swinging, where time becomes groove, where we calibrate the contents of cool? There is. Be there: thecoolspot.club.

Renowned jazz pianist Darrell Grant reimagines what a night at a jazz club might be in our new world of virtual performances, performing with musicians Eric Gruber and Dani danger, and curating special guest performances, streaming live from N Portland’s venue, 1905.

Streaming online via HERE. Free.

POETRY REVIVAL REUNION SHOW ON ZOOM

For four years I used to ride around the country every autumn for two months with Derrick Brown, Buddy Wakefield, and Mike McGee and we’d see the whole country and do poems for people doing our best to show people that poetry could be weird and fun and cool and powerful and quiet and stupid and boundless, and we decided to do something sorta like that again while we all have to find in our homes our own boundlessness. We’ll also be doing a 4-part workshop series, each of us leading one!

BARDS, BOOTS, AND BREWS: An Evening of Literary Magic

Yee-haw, y'all! It's the triumphant return of the Gentleman Bosses: Cristin O'Keefe Aptowicz! Anis Mojgani! & Derrick Brown!

This trio of award-winning, internationally-touring, and genre-busting raconteurs hasn't hit an Austin stage together in over five years! So come on out as they bring their well-loved poems, stories, and vulnerable lightning to their old hometown! Or else live with the regret as they disappear for another half-decade, like weirdo offbeat locuses.

Show at 8pm
Tickets $5 Get em here

“If you aren't familiar with Cristin O'Keefe Aptowicz, then you are doing a serious disservice to your sensibilities. Aptowicz has made herself vulnerable so that her audience can be transformed by them as she has.” – Hothouse Magazine

"Anis Mojgani is a trickster and a philosopher, a theologian and a rock star." – Luis Urrea, Pulitzer Prize Finalist &author of The Devil's Highway

“There’s something that happens when you read Derrick Brown, a rekindling of faith in the weird, hilarious, shocking, beautiful power of words. … when you have the fantastic fortune to watch him perform it in person, you yourself are a bit more alive." – Joel Lovell, The New York Times
